Book Club

Two of my friends and I started our very own book club. It all started by adoring a common book, Twilight and the rest of the Twilight series. We have many unofficial book discussions about the Twilight series which have been great. We met yesterday for our first official meeting. Our first book was Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
I must admit that I enjoyed the book. The most interesting thing about our meeting was how I was able to learn so much more about my friends through their thoughts and feelings about different topics in the book. It was interesting how we could feel so differently about the characters. One example is Heathcliff. Of course we all agreed that he was evil, however, I felt compassion for him throughout most of the book. My friends did NOT. The meeting was very enjoyable and I feel good about incorporating an educational recreation into my life. Our next book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Here are a couple of my wonderful nuggets. It's fun when you capture a sweet honest feeling of love they have for one another.

Little Dancer

OK, Maddie gets the Quote of the day. Madeline started going to all day school this year. She is very tired by the time she gets home. When school started, we signed her up for dance class as well. The class consists of 30min of ballet, 30min of tap, and 30min of tumble on Fridays after school. A tired little girl on Friday afternoon after a long week of school doesn't make a happy dancer. When Maddie asked to be "unsigned up" (that was cute but not the quote of the day) we decided that would be best. She really does like the dance class, the timing was just wrong. Her instructor offered an alternative, the Saturday class. I agreed to talk to Maddie about it. Her instructor said she needed to know by the end of the week because they were ordering costumes for the big annual dance recital. The conversation with Maddie went something like this...
"I told your dance teacher that you would not be going to class anymore because you are too tired after school. She asked if you would come on Saturdays instead".
Maddie didn't look that interested at this point.
"Do you think you will want to do that?"
Not really looking at me and a little distracted she says "I don't know, maybe."
I'm a little impatient at this point "Well, your teacher needs to know soon because they are ordering costumes."
Her head slowly turns to me "C-O-S-T-U-M-E-S...I want to be in the Saturday class."
Interesting how a costume can have such an impact on the decision to be in dance class for a 4 year old girl.

Growing Up

OK, so Isaiah is our oldest boy. He deserves the quote of the day. This weekend we took Isaiah shopping for deodorant and facial cleanser. Josiah, a year younger, has a friend over after school. Isaiah, deciding to show his maturity, tells the boys "I need to put MY deodorant on because my pits are stinking". Nice!!
